Aegerter (12th) in the leading group, Mulhauser scores personal best qualifying

21.05.2016

Twenty riders in less than 8 tenths of a second, Top-12 within 4 tenths: it is going to be an incredible race on Sunday at 12:20 in the valleys of the Tuscan Mountains on the circuit of Mugello. The sixth round of the 2016 world championship, the Italian Moto2 Grand Prix should allow Thomas Lüthi (Garage Plus Interwetten, 7th) and Dominique Aegerter (carXpert Interwetten, 12th) to fight with the leaders again. We should also point out that Robin Mulhauser (carXpert Interwetten), the third rider of the Swiss team, had a good session and finished 24th, 1,6 seconds behind the pole position man. The boss Frédéric Corminboeuf was happy: "Both Tom and Dominique paid dearly for these three tenths in terms of their starting position. First, I would like to stress Dominique's progress. He struggled on Friday and bounced back today. With a good start and his "fighting" spirit, I can fight in a good group. Tom is consistently fast but he also needs a small something to erase these 3 tenths; he needs the help of his technicians and I am sure that with Gilles Bigot they are going to find something in the warm-up on Sunday morning. As for Robin, he made a nice step: 1,6 seconds off the pole on a circuit like Mugello, it is good. He had a solid second day after a good Friday, now I expect a "complete" weekend and that means, as in Le Mans two weeks ago, I don't want to see the number 2 before his name in the final classification. He has to finish in the Top-19 or better, because his pace is not bad."

They said...

Dominique Aegerter (carXpert Interwetten, 12th) "We keep working hard, we are looking for things. My lap time is not bad, 4 tenths behind the pole but what bothers me more is that I lose grip very quickly after two fast laps. We still have to study the telemetry and find a solution for my bike to be more comfortable for the race; to fight with the leaders you have to be comfortable with the bike, which becomes impossible when you lose rear grip. Is it a wrong set-up that overheats the tyre? Or, on the contrary, does it not reach the correct temperature quick enough? Small details in terms of set-up can have severe consequences in this category."

Robin Mulhauser (carXpert Interwetten, 24th) "This was my best qualifying session since the beginning of the season, although my objective is still a regular Top-20. There are 31 riders and one needs to find space through the traffic to be in a good group. I had two clear laps at the end of the session and since my bike is working really well this weekend, I feel more and more comfortable. In each session I was in the Top-5 for top speed, which is going to help in the race due to the famous slipstream on this circuit. I will need a good start but I feel, I know that I can fight for the points. We made a step forward throughout each session, which is the sign that we need."
