Aegerter (3rd) on the front row, Mulhauser 22nd

25.06.2016

Today has marked the best performance so far for the Swiss motorcycle "Dream Team": on Sunday in Assen two Swiss representatives will start the Moto2 "Grand Prix of the Year" from the front row of the grid. Impressive throughout the whole weekend - fastest on Friday, impressive pace on Saturday morning in the third free practice session - Thomas Lüthi (Garage Plus Interwetten) grabbed his second pole position of the year in a qualifying session that was decided within a couple of laps with rain being invited to the party throughout the day. Tom was ahead of the reigning world champion Johann Zarco from France and his team mate Dominique Aegerter (carXpert Interwetten), who claimed a superb third position in his usual spectacular style. No need to mention that Frédéric Corminboeuf, the boss of CGBM Evolution, the company representing the two Swiss teams - was over the moon: "We have two riders on the front row, this is a historical moment that we have been waiting for for 18 months. Tom is full of confidence, he shined in every free practice session and he is on pole. He can be fast in any conditions, which is promising. Dominique managed to relax this afternoon and his commitment did the rest, despite difficult circumstances due to his father's health problems. He was pushing the way we all love to see, he was able to do quick lap times in the crucial moment, which was remarkable. Robin finished 22nd so there is a slight improvement; I want him to show his best in the race whether it rains or the track is dry."

They said...

Dominique Aegerter (carXpert Interwetten, 3rd): "We made a huge progress in terms of the bike set-up since yesterday. I was half a second quicker in qualifying than this morning, although the conditions were tricky. I was the first one out on track with wet tyres and I saw immediately that slicks would work. I returned to the box, my team was very quick and I was able to do six laps before the rain returned. The race? We have to see the weather conditions first. Tom is very fast and myself I want to defend my position."

Robin Mulhauser (carXpert Interwetten, 22nd): "I only just saved the situation because I am not last like yesterday and this morning. I hope to be able to stick with a good group and fight for a position in the Top-15. What makes me angry is that I could have done a lot better: on one of my fastest laps I got held up by Pasini and in the following one I made a mistake. As a result, I only had one proper "run" to do this lap time."
