Second row for Aegerter (5th), Mulhauser makes a progress

03.05.2014

It is still very hot in Andalusia and Dominique Aegerter qualified fifth for the Spanish Moto2 Grand Prix in Jerez de la Frontera. He will start from the second row of the starting grid on Sunday with high ambitions. In the extreme heat, the Team Technomag-carXpert rider was one of the most consistent riders and considering his excellent starts and first corners in the race, we might as well see our number 77 on the top of the pack. Thirtieth in today's qualifying, 2.5 seconds from pole position, Robin Mulhauser from Fribourg confirms his progress; the rookie of the team learns his job relentlessly and here in Jerez he has substantially approached the pack that has been in front of him since the beginning of the season.

Dominique Aegerter (5th): "We saved our softest tyre for the qualifying but the conditions - 30 degrees, 52 in the sun - were again terrible. I am very happy with my consistency but unfortunately I was not able to find the small extra thing to put my bike on the front row. Fifth position, in the middle of the second row, is a great starting position. It should be a little cooler for the race than in qualifying this afternoon and given the fact that this morning I also had a good sensation in the third free practice is of course encouraging. A strategy? There is no strategy in this category. It is clear that ideally I should save something for the final laps because I don't think that one rider will be able to escape all alone. My objective remains the same: a Top-5. But a podium is also an objective... and my first victory also!"

Robin Mulhauser (30th): "It was a good day for me. We worked really well this morning and for qualifying we decided to divide the session in three parts. The first was with the softest tyre, the second with the hardest and the last.... with the better from the first two. In my last run, I managed to get my best lap time so then I pushed even harder but got held up by another rider. Then the tyres started to lose grip and it was more and more difficult to ride. Yet I was able to get collect several laps in the same second and in the race I hope to be able to stay with the group in front of me. I am going to try to sneak through on the start and then win as many positions as possible."
