Aegerter: the day of glory has come!

13.07.2014

24 hours after the French National day, Switzerland celebrates its day of glory thanks to Dominique Aegerter. At 13h 02'08 exactly, the Technomag-carXpert Racing Team rider won his first ever grand prix world championship race during the German grand prix on the circuit of Sachsenring. Aegerter, who started from the pole position and who had the best start to the race, had to fight the entire race with Mika Kallio from Finland. The rest of the pack lost contact with them very quickly but the winner was only decided on the final lap, where the Swiss star retook the lead at the bottom of the steep downhill of the German circuit.

Dominique Aegerter (1st): "What a perfect weekend: first ever pole position, first victory, thanks to everyone who has been supporting me from the beginning of my career. This was a hectic race, Mika (Kallio) did not make a slightest mistake. When I went for my first attack, I thought I have got this but then he overtook me again a bit later. Then I pictured how I was going to make the decisive move on the final lap. I found some space and closed the door in the last corner. Going into the summer break with 25 world championship points is incredible. An endurance race is waiting for me before a comeback to the world championship in Indianapolis, where I usually feel comfortable. Like I said yesterday, all the hard work last month now bears its fruit, mainly the number of tests we did with Suter. The night before the race in Assen, Netherlands, I already knew I was capable of fighting for the victory; however, there I made a wrong choice of tyres. This time luck was on my side."

Robin Mulhauser (24th): "The beginning of the race was good, I was able to stay in a battle with guys like Salóm or Pons for four or five laps but then their pace increased and I realised that I still have a lot to learn to be able to stay with them. Later on I was again in a battle with my regular rivals - Ramos, Nagashima, Rea and Warokorn. The final laps were very close between us. The holiday break that is ahead of us now will be very busy for me: I'm going to Spain early next week with my friend, also a rider, and we have some hard supermotard, trial and bicycle sessions planned. Riding, riding, riding and nothing else but that. Then I'm going to have some rest in Switzerland before heading to the United States a week before the grand prix of Indianapolis."
