Aegerter fights for the victory, Mulhauser scores his first point

09.08.2015

It's been accomplished: for the first time since the launch of the Swiss motorcycle "Dream Team" all of the three riders of Frédéric Corminboeuf scored world championship points. This achievement took place in a breath-taking race in Indianapolis, perhaps the best race we have seen so far this season. This race saw Dominique Aegerter (Technomag Racing Interwetten) fight for the victory until the penultimate lap where he lost contact with the leaders following an aggressive attack of the world championship leader, Johann Zarco. Domi finished fourth sending a message to everyone that he will have a lot to say in the second half of the season. Thomas Lüthi (Derendinger Racing Interwetten) lost his chances for a podium in the first two laps before he managed to fight back in the second half of the race. Finally, Robin Mulhauser (Technomag Racing Interwetten) impressed his team with his consistency until he lost a big chunk of his rear tyre with 8 laps remaining but mainly with his lap times. The boss had a reason to smile: "Amazing race from Dominique with only a small disappointment that he lost the podium battle. He was able to respond to every attack and was in the lead for a long time before he lost contact on Zarco's last, forceful, attempt. It is a pity because he deserved a podium today. Unfortunately Tom was a bit too soft at the beginning of the race before he picked up his pace at the end; we even believed that he was going to join the leading group of five but then Lowes crashed in front of him and he had to brake to avoid a disaster. Today we had the means to see our two guys on the podium. I have a feeling that it will come. As for Robin, he did an exceptional job running a big part of the race in the same lap times as his two teammates. This first world championship point that he has been striving for is well deserved, also knowing that he finished the race with a completely destroyed rear tire. The second half of the season begun really well and I cannot wait to be in Brno next week."

They said...

Dominique Aegerter (Technomag Racing Interwetten, 4th): "When Zarco attacked on the penultimate lap, I lost three positions and a few tenths of a second. It was impossible to fight back. It is hard to finish fourth having led the race for so long. It was hard to make a decision with a few drops of rain just before the start, but we made the right choice. The track was still a bit wet at the beginning of the race but I was able to get into a good pace. I am disappointed to have missed out on this podium but that is what it is: I love to fight, this was a hard fought Grand Prix but it was incredible to be right up there fighting for the victory. My team did an excellent job this weekend to prepare a perfect Kalex for the race. It is true that Indianapolis is a circuit that I love and now I cannot wait to be in Brno to consolidate what we did today."

Robin Mulhauser (Technomag Racing Interwetten, 15th): "We made a quick but good decision to race with slick tires. After a really good start I was in Top-20 fighting first with Randy Krummenacher, whom I was able to overtake. Then I was leading a group and managed to close the gap on Schrötter and West when, with 8 laps remaining, I started to feel serious vibrations on the rear. I did not know at all what was going on, I even thought about a pit stop because I did not want to see my rear tire pop on the main straight when I realised that the problem was particularly serious on the left side. Since I had a 20 second gap behind me I simply held my position in the final laps and got a reward when one of my rivals crashed on the final lap giving me my first point."
