Aegerter fantastic fourth despite a significant technical issue

27.04.2014

Dominique Aegerter has once again met the expectations during the third Moto2 World Championship meeting of the season in Termas de Río Hondo, Argentina. Fourth in the race, the Team Technomag-carXpert rider was very close to yet another podium finish. Same as in Qatar - there unfortunately with more severe consequences, his first retirement in more than two years - his engine had an oil leak from the tenth lap, which prevented him from using the rear brake. Aegerter takes fifth in the overall world championship standings and is now ahead of his countryman Thomas Lüthi. Twenty-ninth in today's race Robin Mulhauser had a good start of the race before he started to experience some problems with his tyres. Despite that, the youngster from Fribourg still accumulated some important experience.

Dominique Aegerter (4th): "The engine started to leak oil on the tenth lap out of twenty three but I did not know. I realised that I was not able to use my rear brake and I could not know that it was because of the oil leak. I had a great pace until then, but without the rear brake, on this track in particular, it was impossible to continue the same. It is annoying because a podium was well within my reach today."

Robin Mulhauser (29th): "I am quite happy with the beginning of my race because I was in a good battle, however, I am a bit disappointed not to be able to close the gap on the group in front of me. Towards the end my tyres were exhausted and when Argentinian Poro got in front of me I did everything I could to stay with him but it was impossible. The first corner? Oh, I had fun. I know that at that moment everyone brakes really late but in doing so, they go wide. So I stick to the inside. What is the most positive is that the difference between me and the leaders keeps decreasing: in Qatar, I finished the race with 1'11 gap; I was 1'09 behind in Texas and today it was 1'."
