Aegerter a fantastic 5th and a come-back, Mulhauser reasonable not to start

35 degrees and almost 60 in the sun, Dominique Aegerter succeeded a really good result in these extreme conditions finishing 5th in the Malaysian Moto2 Grand Prix that he started off with serious flu. Perfect as always at the start, and staring in the first half of the race, the Team Technomag-carXpert rider then started to struggle a lot physically. This 5th position allows Aegerter to close the gap in the championship standings between him and his countryman Thomas Lüthi, who is currently fourth. As explained yesterday, Robin Mulhauser, having been struck down by the flu, could not start the race even though his condition improved significantly compared to terrible Saturday for him.

Dominique Aegerter (5th): "Considering that on Thursday I still had a fever (39) and that I was not able to swallow anything; I spent Friday's first day of free practice I don't know how and now I came 5th in the race I can be proud of myself given the circumstances. It was extreme. I finished the 3dl of water that I carry on my back very quickly. At the beginning of the race I was not far from the three leaders but I was not able to get involved with them. I wasn't losing much but I simply couldn't. Later on I obviously run out of power. I did everything I could to stay ahead of Zarco and Simón on the last lap. We passed each other twice with the Frenchman. I was on the limit with my body."

Robin Mulhauser (DNS): "I had a terrible day on Saturday. I did not leave my hotel room, not even to eat. The antibiotics helped me and I feel a lot better today. Nevertheless it would be stupid to try to ride having only completed a few laps in a free practice."

Frédéric Corminboeuf (team manager): "We never had any doubts that we will find "our" Dominique again soon. But what he did today, considering his health issues, is truly impressive."
