Aegerter 14th in qualifying, Mulhauser makes progress

20.08.2016

The second day on the circuit of Brno for the Czech Grand Prix was painful for Thomas Lüthi (Garage Plus Interwetten): the Swiss rider first crashed in the morning's third practice session. While he only suffered a painful right hand, his bike flew over the tyre barrier before it crashed into the protective fence on the other side, completely destroyed. His team managed to re-build the bike for him in the afternoon and Lüthi was immediately fast before he crashed for the second time with about ten minutes to go. The session was red-flagged in order for the medical team to arrive: "Thomas lost consciousness but he woke up when he arrived to the circuit medical centre," explained Frédéric Corminboeuf, the boss of the double Swiss structure. The rider was then airlifted to the hospital in Brno to undergo further examinations; his participation in tomorrow's race cannot be confirmed yet. Dominique Aegerter (carXpert Interwetten) qualified 14th at the end and his team mate Robin Mulhauser 26th. "Dominique is 8 tenths off the pole, the gap is not huge. We found some improvements in the morning but not enough for him to be comfortable enough in qualifying. We will continue to work tomorrow morning in warm-up. Knowing Aegerter's fighting spirit, we can expect another solid Top-10 finish in the race. Robin is still far off what we could expect from him, but he has made a progress today. If it rains tomorrow, he can give us a nice surprise," explained the team manager. They said... Dominique Aegerter (carXpert Interwetten, 14th): "The gap is not significant on this track where it is so easy to lose a lot of time. But I am still struggling a lot with the bike. I don't have a consistent rhythm, although I am aware that others are experiencing the same problems. Also the majority of the best lap times were done at the beginning of each run. I want more than this, I also know that when things don't go my way I am not the best man to work with, but that is who I am. We have to continue, keep finding solutions so I can become the "Domi" I was two years ago."

Robin Mulhauser (carXpert Interwetten, 26th): "The qualifying session was a bit better than the third practice session. We found some good set-ups and I felt more comfortable and even got some good tows. I was behind Alex Rins for a moment and I saw that I don't lose much time on the brakes but I lose much more on acceleration, corner exits. But I feel better than yesterday and who knows, maybe if it rains it can work in our favour on Sunday in the race."
