A superb fifth for Aegerter

01.06.2014

When speaking about Dominique Aegerter nothing can surprise us. After a difficult first day of free practice, he succeeded in qualifying 5th on Saturday for the Italian GP on the circuit of Mugello knowing that he will struggle to keep up with the fasters in the race. However, the Technomag-carXpert rider was fighting like a lion following yet another great start to stay with the leading group before finishing fifth. This performance puts him third in the overall Moto2 world championship classification. Robin Mulhauser, the second rider of the Swiss team, finished thirtieth.

Dominique Aegerter (5th): "I had a good start again but I immediately realised that it was not possible for me to stay with Tito Rabat. I was losing too much time in two particular places - 8th and 9th corner. Unfortunately I lost a 4th position on the final straight because Simone Corsi took advantage of my slipstream. We know this Mugello circuit; whoever is the leader of a group in the last corner has a disadvantage. I knew this but I had no other option than to overtake him in the middle of the last lap. I thought it would be enough but then I was losing 7 thousands of a second for 4th. Having qualified fifth on the starting grid, I could make a false impression for a few laps. Now we have an important test here on Tuesday with a few different things to try. We have to keep working hard like we have been doing since the beginning of the season."

Robin Mulhauser (30th): "I had a bad start unfortunately but I managed to avoid great consequences. Then I tried to keep up with Nico Teról and Louis Rossi, who were just in front of me but it was impossible. I lost contact with them very quickly. I was fighting with Spanish Roman Ramos the whole race and together we closed the gap on the group in front of us. The four of us finished very close. What was the most difficult today was consistency."
