A difficult day for Aegerter, Mulhauser is learning

30.05.2014

The first day of free practice for the Italian GP in the beautiful surroundings of the circuit of Mugello in the heart of Tuscany was compromised by the weather. While the first three free sessions scheduled for this morning were held in dry conditions, rain appeared in the afternoon. 25th overall, Dominique Aegerter was battling with some set-up problems; 31st for his first appearance on this circuit in Moto2, Robin Mulhauser continues to progress in the world championship.

Dominique Aegerter (25th): "There's not much to say today; the whole session I was not able to find confidence with the front of my bike. We are working to resolve this problem. We changed something but since the track was wet this afternoon - first partially then completely - we couldn't check if we are aiming the right direction. This circuit requires a smooth riding style and that does not really suit me. But that being said, Jerez was not my favourite circuit until the beginning of May this year and it was precisely there that I achieved the best result of my career. We will carry on, work even harder hoping that the weather improves on Saturday to make up for the time we lost today."

Robin Mulhauser (31st): "Mugello is not entirely new to me, but almost. I did a few laps here on a 125cc six years ago but at that time I did not really know what I was doing. My morning session wasn't bad; compared to Le Mans, we made a few changes to adapt the bike to this circuit and I had quite good feeling. After the afternoon's session we discovered that in some parts of the track I was still making big mistakes so there is a big scope for improvement for me. The track was wet in some parts at the beginning of the session this afternoon so we decided to wait until it rains properly so I can try some laps in the rain for the first time on a Moto2 bike."
