Aegerter ends up well, Mulhauser does not understand

19.08.2016

2 milliseconds were enough to deprive Thomas Lüthi (Garage Plus Interwetten) of the top stop on the opening day of free practice for the Czech Grand Prix on the circuit of Brno. Beaten by the reigning world champion and the current 2016 World Championship leader Johann Zarco, Tom, who finished the session on the rear wheel of the Number 5, had a productive day. Conditions were changing throughout the day with some drops of rain falling in late morning hours during the first free practice session. Dominique Aegerter (carXpert Interwetten), who was struggling the whole day, managed to save the situation with a quick last lap (provisional 16th position). His team mate Robin Mulhauser (carXpert Interwetten) was not able to avoid a pen-ultimate position. Frédéric Corminboeuf, the boss of CGBM Evolution, the company that aligns the two Swiss teams on the Moto2 World Championship grid, shared a few words: "We had quite a difficult start this morning. Last week we were at a track with unusual grip conditions but here we are facing a very slippery surface. Tom was still able to show, at the end of the second session, that he is one of the best; he was improving throughout the day, which is positive. Dominique's Friday was going the same direction, however, a little bit lower down the field. He took time to find his pace and some room in the traffic. But he is a fighter, he will be there in the race. And Robin? He tested here for two days a few weeks ago and we thought that it would help him but there was no difference compared to the previous weekends. He knows that he has to react."

They said...

Dominique Aegerter (carXpert Interwetten, 16th): "The day was very difficult. At the beginning there was no grip, I wasn't able to turn the bike into the corners. It was crazy because during the test four weeks ago it was completely different; also I am still far off the times that we did here in testing and last year. At the end I managed to do a quick lap being on the limit everywhere; but I know it will be impossible to do ten laps riding like this. So, we are working, we need to find a technical solution."

Robin Mulhauser (carXpert Interwetten, 28th): "I don't have much to say. On top of the problems that everyone else is having - no grip - I had some technical problems too (brakes), that forced me to spend a lot of time in the box. I am really asking myself questions: I was sure that the test we did here one month ago would give me something, but it's not the case. I am far off my times, I cannot enter corners as I would like to. Today was a day to forget."
