Dominique Aegerter, the hero of Motegi

27.10.2013

Dominique Aegerter made a truly brave performance during the Japanese Moto2 Grand Prix on the circuit of Motegi. Having been hit by Indonesian Sucipto in the third corner of the race, the Technomag-carXpert rider crashed out at the very moment when the race direction was waving a red flag to stop the race following an accident that took Esteve Rabat, Scott Redding and Alex Mariñelarena out of the race (no one was seriously injured). With a dislocated left shoulder, Dominique managed to take his bike back to the pits and while he was being treated by doctors, his mechanics fixed his Suter MMX2. Forced to start from the back of the grid, Dominique made an impressive comeback up to eight place: "This boy has an incredible capacity," said his chief technician, Gilles Bigot. This has already been the 32nd time in a row for Dominique Aegerter to score world championship points and with one race to go, he is fifth in the Moto2 classification.

Dominique Aegerter (8th): "As soon as I found myself on the ground, I realised that I had dislocated my shoulder. Then I saw the red flag was out and I told myself: this is your chance, if you can take the bike back to the pits, you might be allowed to do the re-start. I went to the clinica immediately to see the doctors, some of them had to put my shoulder back to its place and after an x-ray, that confirmed I didn't sustain any fracture, I could go back to my box. It was a bit too late to take my original grid position, but not too late to start from the back of the grid. And then? As soon as the lights went off, I stopped thinking about the accident, I did not feel any pain anymore and I was able to fight my way through the field the way I wanted up to the eight place."
