Dominique Aegerter struggles, Robin Mulhauser struck down by the flu

The first day of free practice for the Malaysian Grand Prix, the penultimate round of the 2014 World Championship, was affected by the weather. A violent downpour hit the Sepang circuit at 2pm, forcing the race direction to delay the start of the MotoGP practice. The Moto2 second free practice started with a 20-minute delay, unfortunately without Robin Mulhauser. The second rider of the Team Technomag-carXpert did only 6 laps in the first free practice session this morning as he becomes another victim of the flu that hit the paddock last week. The youngster from Fribourg was back in his hotel already during the lunch break. Also seriously affected by the flu, Dominique Aegerter kept fighting in these difficult conditions and finished 26th overall today.

Dominique Aegerter (26th): "Riding in this heat with such humidity is not easy when I'm physically fully fit. Needless to say that trying to ride with flu is basically impossible. I have a fever, sore throat and today did not give me a lot. I am going back to my hotel as soon as possible to look after myself and hope that tomorrow I will feel a bit better."

Robin Mulhauser (35th): "I made three attempts, 2 laps each, but it was simply impossible. My fever rose to 39,5 and I'm really not feeling well. I went to see a GP doctor and he suggested that I go back to the hotel immediately to have a rest and to look after myself. They gave me some antibiotics and now I cannot do more than hope that I will feel better on Saturday."
