Aegerter: important six points, Mulhauser: personal best result

17.07.2016

During the German Grand Prix in Sachsenring, in a wet race with many twists, Thomas Lüthi (Garage Plus Interwetten) missed a golden opportunity to close the gap on the top three in the intermediate classification of the Moto2 World Championship. Crashing out on lap eighteen out of twenty nine, the Swiss rider, who was fighting for the sixth position and was closing on later third Spaniard Julian Simón, was not able to avoid a high-speed crash, luckily without physical consequences. His two teammates Dominique Aegerter (carXpert Interwetten) and Robin Mulhauser saw the finish line closely behind each other with Aegerter in tenth and the youngster from Fribourg in thirteenth position, his personal best Grand Prix result. The impressions of Frédéric Corminboeuf, the boss of the Swiss structure, are mixed: "This is already the second time in a row with Tom Lüthi that we are giving points to his adversaries; it is irritating because he had the pace to finish in the Top-5 without a doubt and maybe even on the podium. So we have missed an opportunity to stay in contact with the championship leaders. We know that we have the pace and I am sure that after the summer break that is going to be very busy with testing, Tom will come back even stronger: we want this overall podium! Dominique got this tenth position in pain after a difficult weekend for him; he moved up by one position in the provisional overall world championship classification and we also need to find means to give him more confidence with the bike. Robin got his career best result in the world championship, he was consistent throughout the race and with him I also hope that this performance will give him a lot of motivation for the second half of the season."

They said...

Dominique Aegerter (carXpert Interwetten, 10th): "The position is good, bearing in mind my position on the grid and also knowing that the rain is not my strongest point. I had difficult moments during this race, I was on the limit. However, although I finished with a big gap, I did my job. I benefited from some people crashing out but in these conditions the most important thing is to finish. I have two tests ahead of me, first in Brno, second in Austria and then the Suzuka 8-hour race. This Grand Prix break will be good for everyone, the technical team but also my personal team at home."

Robin Mulhauser (carXpert Interwetten, 13th): "I knew on Saturday that if it rains it will be important to finish the race. And I did it, like in Jerez, although my performances were not spectacular. I was good in T4 but it was worse in the other sectors and I quickly lost contact with Dominique's group. I had no grip on the rear, it was very strange. But ok, obviously I am not going to pretend, it feels good to take these three points."
