Aegerter a superb podium, Mulhauser struggles as in Le Mans

31.05.2015

What a day and what a start to the Moto2 Grand Prix of Italy in front of the whole crowd of Mugello! A perfect start put Dominique Aegerter (Technomag Racing Interwetten) into the lead ahead of Thomas Lüthi (Derendinger Racing Interwetten), who found a room from fourth on the grid to be immediately on the back of his teammate. The two leaders together, who would have imagined this scenario this morning, even managed to pull a gap on the rest of the field: two Swiss riders in the lead of a Moto2 Grand Prix, this has never happened before. Unfortunately Thomas Lüthi had a crash, he did not hurt himself but he left Dominique Aegerter alone to light up the race and finish third and on the podium for the first time in the 2015 season. The third rider of the Swiss "Dream Team" Robin Mulhauser (Technomag Racing Interwetten) finished 22nd after a battle with a double Grand Prix winner Anthony West and Louis Rossi from France.

They said ...

Dominique Aegerter (Technomag Racing Interwetten, 3rd): "Something decisive happened on Saturday in qualifying. My second position was a real surprise to me. But I also understood that I am capable of riding in a really good pace with my new bike (Kalex). In the race, the first laps with Tom were perfect. When he crashed and I was in the lead I got nervous because I had no clue how far I can go. How much should I push? Rabat and Zarco were too strong for me but the fact that I was able to stick with the leaders for so long is really important for my confidence. The last five laps were difficult, I was finding it difficult to stay concentrated, I had a feeling that I lacked power. I would like to thank the whole team and those who have always believed in me and helped me despite a difficult start to the season. This podium is for them."

Robin Mulhauser (Technomag Racing Interwetten, 22nd): "Unfortunately I have a feeling that all races are very similar for me. As in Le Mans I experienced a problem with my rear tyre very quickly, it was pretty much destroyed while that of Domi, who did so well in the race, perfectly lasted. We have to understand what is happening: Is perhaps my riding style different in the race than in practice? We will find out. I was fighting the whole race with a group for a nineteenth position. We finished a bit higher up in the classification but I am still far off where I want to be."
