Aegerter 6th in Australia

20.10.2013

In a half-distance race - due to various teams' concerns about tyre durability from the official Moto2 provider - Dominique Aegerter finished 6th in the Australian Grand Prix, 3 seconds behind the race winner, Spaniard Pol Espargaró. This has already been the 31st time in a row that the Technomag-carXpert rider scored world championship points, a consistency that puts him 5th in the overall championship classification this morning ahead of Japanese Takaaki Nakagami. The next race takes place in Japan next Sunday.

Dominique Aegerter (6th): "This was a difficult race. The result is not bad - 6th at the end, 3 seconds behind in a 13-lap race, that's not bad but I am not completely satisfied because I was finding it really difficult to overtake those who were in a battle with me. The straights where I could have made a difference came each time after corners where I simply was not fast enough; I would close the gap on my rivals but was not able to overtake them. Also, I am going to carry a bitter feeling from this weekend in Australia because of the whole story with the tyres and the distance being halved. At the end of the race my tyres were like brand new; Friday and Saturday morning we worked a lot to prepare a bike that would work the entire regular distance and it was for nothing. It is a pity. Now I have to be positive ahead of Motegi: it is a "stop and go" type of circuit with aggressive braking passages. It will be absolutely essential to be on it from the beginning on Friday morning to be able to maintain our objective - a Top-5 finish - and my own - a podium. Today I know that many nice things were possible but unfortunately we experienced these small problems."
