Aegerter (15th) very disappointed, Mulhauser struggles
The first day of free practice for the French GP (Friday) went really well for Dominique Aegerter, who finished 4th. But things were more difficult today, Saturday, both in the final free practice this morning and qualifying this afternoon. 0.7 seconds behind the pole man, the Swiss hero of the recent Spanish GP will start from the fifth row of the starting grid (15th position) in Sunday's race at 12h 10. The second rider of the Swiss team, Robin Mulhauser, was not able to avoid a last position here on the circuit Bugatti in Le Mans that is new for him.
Dominique Aegerter (15th): "Of course I am really disappointed with how things turned out today. We tried some new things this morning in free practice but we soon realised that we were not on the right track. So we returned back to what was working yesterday, I was able to claim the same lap time but what was sufficient for a front position on Friday was only enough to put me in the middle of the pack today. We tested the two tyres that we have, we also tried a few modifications, however, in this category, one will not gain half a second with only a small modification. The race? If the pace is around my best lap time I will be able to fight back; but if it is around the fastest times, a miracle will not be possible."
Robin Mulhauser (35th): "My day was again really difficult. I have improved my lap times in each session from the beginning of the weekend but I'm still not where I want to be. It is not the bike, nothing to do with the material, the problem on this circuit is the rider. My corner speed is not bad, I accelerate normally but I'm lacking the little extra bit to allow myself to brake later and enter corners faster. The level of this class is extremely high and I know that all I have to do is keep working even harder."
