A Top-10 for Aegerter, Mulhauser struggles with grip

17.05.2015

Thomas Lüthi (Derendinger Racing Interwetten) won the French Grand Prix on the circuit of Bugatti in Le Mans for the fourth time in his career - two victories in 125cc and now two victories in Moto2. This performance and his tenth Grand Prix victory puts him second overall in the provisional Moto2 World Championship classification. Impressive in free practice already; Lüthi had an excellent start from the second row of the grid, he got into third position immediately and took the lead on the fifth lap - he needed to try twice to overtake Johann Zarco from France, the current championship leader. Once in the lead, Tom was riding in an impressive pace despite the tough conditions for his tires during the race. Lüthi managed to break the official record of the circuit by 6 tenths of a second. Tenth Dominique Aegerter (Technomag Racing Interwetten) got his best performance of the season so far today even though he is still not where he wants to be after his season 2014. Twentieth Robin Mulhauser (Technomag Racing Interwetten) had a good start but unfortunately lost contact with a good group fairly quickly. The boss of CGBM Evolution, the company that owns the two teams, and the team manager in one person, Frédéric Corminboeuf, had the honour of stepping up on the top step of the podium for the first time this season together with one of his riders - the race winner: "In the race Tom confirmed in the best possible way what he has been showing throughout the different practice sessions, even though he qualified "only" on the second row, he was one of the strong men this weekend and he showed that with intelligence. I also want to stress out that what used to be complicated for him - the start and the first few meters of the race - seems to be resoled. Not that he did not lose positions at the start, he gained a few! Of course we know that he is always fast here in Le Mans and now we have to confirm this on other circuits, however, I have no doubts: we know that we have the means to win this season and we are proving that. Dominique scored 6 points. They are important for him even though I can imagine that he is not happy with a tenth position. We will keep working hard knowing that we first have to confirm this Top-10 performance before we can think about a Top-5, then a regular Top-5 and only then a victory. Robin's race was more disappointing, he was clearly slower than in practice and we need to analyse the problems that he experienced."

They said...

Dominique Aegerter (Technomag Racing Interwetten, 10th): "I would like to be positive: these six points are important for the team, we are working hard and I know that we need to understand our problems step by step. I will not find half a second from one session to another. I want a lot more, I want to be where I was last year but my current means are still limited. All the people around me help me a lot and I know we will get there."

Robin Mulhauser (Technomag Racing Interwetten, 20th): "This was a race to forget. I had a great start, I was not far from the fifteenth position, close behind Morbidelli from Italy when I went off track in the Chapelle. I found myself in the grass and from that moment on every time I accelerated I had no chance on my rivals, we had a problem with grip that we need to resolve. Yesterday I was in 1:38.8 "easy" and in the race I was battling to get into 1:39.3. What I will remember is that I could congratulate Tom Lüthi on his victory lap and I heard the national anthem, which is always something special. Tom has shown today that he is there to fight for the world title."
