A difficult day for Aegerter, Mulhauser makes a progress

11.10.2014

Saturday was not easy for the top rider of the Team Technomag-carXpert, Dominique Aegerter: the best Swiss rider of the Moto2 World Championship, the winner of the German GP, "Domi" had a crash this morning during the third free practice before he struggled in qualifying. Sixteenth overall today, the eighteen fastest being in the same second, he will start on Sunday morning from the sixth row of the starting grid. Unlike his teammate, the second rider of the Swiss team, Robin Mulhauser from Fribourg, has been making a progress throughout the weekend; even though his 31st position does not speak for itself, the "rookie" has reduced his gap between himself and the fastest riders despite serious muscle pain.

Dominique Aegerter (16th): "I would really like to give you a good explanation but I am not able to find one. I got my best lap time of the weekend on Friday, which is certainly not normal. This morning I tried some new things and could not avoid a small crash. This afternoon I quickly found some pace but I was on the limit while still losing more than 6 tenths of a second on the fastest. Then I know myself: when things don't go to plan, I begin to stress and make mistakes. What was even worse when I went out with new tyres at the end of the session: since I had not yet found enough confidence here to do a fast lap by myself, I was looking for someone to follow and lost 3 laps in traffic. Now there only remains one thing to do: get a good sleep and say that Sunday is another day. I will have to get a great start and good first laps and we will see where it will take us."

Robin Mulhauser (31st): "At the end of the third free practice this morning I started to feel sharp pain on the right side of my back. A muscle problem felt as if there was some inflammation. In qualifying after my first run I almost couldn't breathe anymore. I experienced this problem in Britain already two years ago and I got an injection from the mobile clinic that helped me. Here they told me to relax and we shall see tomorrow morning after warm-up how I feel. It is a pity because if I had managed to repeat my morning's performance, there still were some positions to gain."
